Lake Tahoe Elopement Photographer

An alpine lake so clear it looks tropical, with granite beaches and snowy peaks.

When to go

  • June–September: warm days, swimmable water, wildflowers in July.
  • October: fall color at the aspen groves, crisp and quiet.
  • December–April: snow season for couples who want a winter elopement.

Permits

Tahoe ceremonies sit on a patchwork of Forest Service, state park and private land. Emerald Bay and Sand Harbor are state parks with permit systems and limits; many beaches and viewpoints on Forest Service land require a simple permit for groups.

Lake Tahoe is the alpine elopement that still feels like California: blue water, granite boulders along the shore, pine forest and peaks that hold snow into June. It is a four-hour drive from the Bay Area and an hour from Reno’s airport, which makes it one of the easiest mountain destinations to reach with family in tow.

Why elope in Lake Tahoe

Variety. In one day you can say vows on a granite outcrop above Emerald Bay, swim in water that looks like the Caribbean, and finish with portraits in an aspen meadow at sunset. In winter the same shoreline turns silent and white.

Where the ceremony happens

  • Emerald Bay overlooks and the shoreline below Vikingsholm.
  • Sand Harbor on the east shore for the clearest water and smooth boulders.
  • Forest Service beaches along the west shore for quieter two-person ceremonies.
  • Alpine meadows and ridgelines reached by short hikes from Highway 89.

What to know before you book

Summer weekends are busy and parking fills before nine, so we plan sunrise ceremonies or weekday dates. Afternoon thunderstorms roll through in July and August. Winter brings chain controls and storm closures, which is why we build every winter timeline with a flexible ceremony hour.

How we work here

Tahoe is covered by our Adventure collection with no travel fee. We scout the shoreline for your date, handle the state park or Forest Service permit, and plan the day around the light on the water.

Lake Tahoe questions, answered.

Which side of the lake is best?

The west and south shores, from Emerald Bay down to South Lake Tahoe, hold the granite coves and viewpoints most couples picture. The east shore has the clearest water and Sand Harbor.

Can we elope in the snow?

Yes. Winter Tahoe elopements are some of our favourites. We plan around storm days and keep a snowshoe trail and a lakeside backup in the timeline.
